Maurice Benayoun’s The Shape of Human Values was created with the goal of bringing together neuroscience, art, and blockchain to explore how we perceive, represent, and exchange human values such as Love, Peace, and Power.

With this exhibition, MEET becomes one of the final stops on the Value of Values journey: a project launched by the artist in 2016 that has involved cities around the world. Milan thus hosts the culmination of ten years of research and experimentation, an exhibition that offers the public a synthesis of an in-depth exploration of the mind and human values, capturing not only the sensibilities of the individual but also those of international communities.

At the same time, with this exhibition, MEET continues its series dedicated to the pioneers of digital culture and their ability to interpret the transformations of the present. Maurice Benayoun invites us to reflect not on technology itself, but on the values that guide our choices and define our vision of the future. His works make visible what usually remains internal and abstract, transforming MEET into a space for participation, dialogue, and awareness.

How do we represent human values?

Digital art has begun to make us reflect on today’s society. Maurice Benayoun’s The Shape of Human Values was created precisely with this goal in mind: to combine neuroscience, art, and blockchain to transform our thoughts and ideas about values such as love, freedom, and compassion into something visible and tangible.

The exhibition transcends the boundaries of traditional art, which relies on manual labor for the production of works, and thanks to an EEG headset, allows the public to give concrete form to abstract concepts such as human values directly through thought. This also reverses the classic dynamic of generative AI: the algorithm proposes the visual form, while the human brain acts as a filter and supervisor.

The centerpiece of the exhibition is the work Neuro-design Station, where visitors wear an EEG headset that reads their brain waves and, using only the power of thought, shapes a 3D form representing a human value. This model is recorded on the blockchain as an NFT and becomes the property of its creator.

The entire exhibition itinerary branches out from this core: the created values are recorded on the blockchain as NFTs and feed into the Value Trading Room, a stock market where the creations compete with one another, before being cataloged in the Periodic Table of Values. Abstraction then takes on a tangible form: AI reworks the shapes of the values, converting them into 2D prints and 3D sculptures. Finally, the work in the Immersive Room shows us how human values are perceived on a global scale, providing us with a dynamic global map of the value priorities, tensions, and aspirations of the present.

The Shape of Human Values thus presents itself as an experience that lays bare our scale of priorities to reveal what truly holds value for today’s society.
