Viaggio in Italia – Roberto Beragnoli

From March 2026
Wednesday to Sunday – 3pm to 7pm
MEET Digital Culture Center
Viale Vittorio Veneto 2, Milan

Viaggio in Italia is one of the first web series generated entirely with artificial intelligence. A work that lies at the intersection between documentary, fiction, and meta-narrative, it represents one of the most ambitious attempts to bring cinematic language into the realm of AI video generation.

The series recounts the creation of an experimental broadcast conceived by a group of inventors from the University of Pisa and Olivetti in the 1960s. The crew documents a reality produced by a computing laboratory: a simulation of Italy, generated by a machine. The story starts with real elements (Mario Tchou, the first Olivetti Programma 101 personal computer used by NASA), then opens up to a parallel timeline in which powerful artificial intelligence allows memory to be explored as a navigable space. The tone oscillates between Boris and Fellini: between the story of production and abandonment to the visionary.

The title recalls the tradition of the Grand Tour, from Montesquieu to Goethe, but reverses its premise: here the journey does not take place in reality, it takes place within a simulation. The Italy we see is not documented, it is recreated: recognizable yet transfigured, familiar and alienating.
