Daito Manabe from Sonar to MEET with an audio visual set
Straight from Barcelona’s Sonar, the brilliant Japanese media artist Daito Manabe comes to MEET for a surprise performance for The New Atlas of Digital Art 2025.
Among the world’s most innovative media artists, Daito Manabe will perform at MEET on June 19 at 8 p.m. An interaction designer, programmer, engineer and DJ, Manabe is a specialist in fusing different languages, his research ranges from sound design to artificial intelligence, from interactive installations to choreographic drones. His work moves at the boundaries between human and machine experience, in a practice in which tecn0logy and music are tools for creating hypnotic experiences.
“Cold” technologies for making connections
Manabe has revolutionized live performance through collaborations with music legends such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Björk, Squarepusher, Nosaj Thing, and Arca. From the “Sensing Streams” project with Sakamoto to AR/VR videos for Björk (“Mouth Mantra,” ‘Quicksand’) to visually breathtaking performances at Coachella with Nosaj Thing, he has demonstrated how seemingly “cold” technologies can create deep emotional connections. He promotes a unique poetics that fuses body, movement and technology into immersive experiences where the line between real and virtual completely vanishes.
The Experience at MEET for MEET The Media Guru
This is not the first time Daito has come to MEET. The media artist had already been to the Center in 2018 for a Meet The Media Guru, where he told the audience about why technology is a very powerful tool to emotionally connect with people with technologies considered cold, such as robots, drones or lasers
