Opening | The Art of Connection, Albert-László Barabási

A pioneer of network science, Albert-László Barabási with his research discovered and made visible the hidden order behind complex data systems. A well-known physicist, computer scientist and researcher, he made a fundamental contribution to the understanding of web dynamics and founded the BarabásiLab, a famous research laboratory.
The world produces more data per day than was previously generated in a decade. Their growth is exponential. In order to be able to analyse and understand this mass of data, Barabási developed a mathematical model that allows the visualisation of characteristic nodes and networks, parameters and patterns that produce visually striking images.
For the first time in Italy, the entire corpus of works created at BarabásiLab is presented. An exhibition whose focus is Barabási’s ability to unite scientific intuition and visionary spirit in a creative synthesis: still images, sketches, graphic and artistic representations, and sculptures derived from the data collected online over the last 30 years by his team.
The exhibition occupies the ground floor and the entire first floor of MEET: it draws a comprehensive overview of the highly topical fields of application of network data architecture and culminates in the Immersive Room with a site-specific immersive installation that provides a comprehensive and universal insight into the creativity of this artist and his laboratory.Art, science and technology is a major theme in the MEET agenda.

This exhibition aims to bring out the extent to which the innovative and interdisciplinary interweaving of science with art enables the analysis of complex cultural and social phenomena.

Opening: Wednesday, February 8, 6:30 p.m.
